Product photography from our York studio

Digital composite photography.

Your product. A different setting.

Digital composite means combining a product photograph with a separate scene. It can place a cushion in a room or a bottle in a setting without photographing everything together on location.

How the image is made

Photograph the product. Build the scene around it.

Choose the setting first
The room or scene determines the viewpoint and direction of light. Choosing it early helps us photograph the product at a suitable angle.
Keep the product itself clear
We use the product photograph to retain its visible shape, label and materials. We need suitable source images to do this well.
Bring the pieces together
We adjust placement, scale, light and shadows so the product sits convincingly in the scene. The finished image is assembled digitally.

Where this approach can help

Create the setting the brief calls for.

Rooms and interiors

Show furnishings against a setting that suits their style. Measurements and a suitable viewpoint help establish believable proportions.

02

Use and surroundings

A kitchen or workspace can explain where a product belongs. The scene should support the product rather than distract from it.

Seasonal images

Plan a festive or seasonal setting without waiting for that time of year. The product, scene and any supplied assets still need to work together.

A good result starts with the source

Some photographs give us more to work with.

Angle and resolution

A small front-on photo cannot reliably become a sharp view from above. Send the original files for assessment; a new photograph may be the better route.

Scale and contact

Share product dimensions. Reflections, transparent materials and surfaces touching the scene can need additional photography or detailed editing.

Scenes and permissions

We agree the background and any third-party assets before starting, including their cost and permitted use. Reusing a scene is considered against the new product.

Planning your shoot

From the first conversation to the finished images.

How we price your shoot ↗
  1. Send the product and scene idea

Share the original product photos if you have them, dimensions, references and where the final image will appear.

  2. Check the source and agree the plan

We assess whether new photography is needed, then confirm the setting, versions, editing and price.

  3. Assemble and review the image

We combine the agreed elements and check the scale, lighting and edges before preparing the finished files.

Tell us what you have in mind.

Tell us the product and the setting you want to show. If you already have photographs, send the original files so we can assess their suitability.

A product link or rough idea is enough to start. We will come back with a plan and an itemised estimate.

Before you book

Digital composite photography questions.

Is this a photograph taken in a real room?

The finished image combines a product photograph with a separate setting. We explain the method and agree the scene before starting, rather than presenting it as a location shoot.

Can you use photographs I already have?

We can assess them. The angle, resolution, lighting and visible detail need to suit the scene. If they do not, we may recommend photographing the product again.

Can you reuse a scene for new products?

Often, provided the new products suit the viewpoint, lighting and permissions for that scene. Send dimensions and original photos so we can check before quoting.

When is a real lifestyle shoot a better choice?

A real shoot may be better when someone needs to handle the product, demonstrate movement or interact closely with it. We can discuss the practical options around your brief.

How is the price worked out?

We quote for the images and work agreed for your project. Your itemised estimate sets out the photography, editing and any additional production requirements. Packshots Pro is not VAT registered and does not charge VAT. There is no minimum order.

Can you work to my deadline?

Tell us the date when you enquire, along with when the products or source images will be available. We confirm the delivery date before booking and will tell you if the brief needs adjusting to fit the time available.
