Product photography from our York studio

Flat lay photography.

Arrange the pieces. Show how they belong.

Flat lay means arranging products on a surface and photographing them from above. It can be a simple garment on white, a coordinated outfit or a styled collection for a launch.

What should the arrangement show?

01

A product or matching outfit

Lay out the shape and useful details clearly. Spacing, sleeves, ties and hems need attention so the arrangement feels deliberate.

Colours and coordinated pieces

Show how products or colour options relate to one another. We agree which pieces belong in the photograph and what is sold together.

A clean individual view

A plain background leaves the product easy to see. Small details and accessories can be positioned carefully without a busy setting.

The arrangement does the explaining

Every piece needs a place.

Start with the important item
Decide what should be noticed first. Supporting products and props should leave the main item easy to recognise.
Prepare the products
Garments may need arranging and preparation; surfaces need to be clean. We discuss sample condition and any additional styling before booking.
Leave the right space
A collection for a banner needs a different arrangement from a square shop photo. Share the layouts and any text that will sit over the image.

Plan each finished arrangement

A new layout is a new piece of work.

Single items and groups

List the products and the combinations you need. Photographing five items separately is different from arranging them together in one scene.

Simple or styled

White-background garment views and a detailed prop arrangement have different preparation needs. We quote for the actual setups.

When another view helps

Flat lay shows a product from above. Add a side, detail or mannequin view if its depth, construction or shape would otherwise be unclear.

Let’s plan the work

Tell us what you have in mind.

Tell us whether you need simple product views, outfits or styled collections. A list of the combinations and a few references will help us plan the work.

A product link or rough idea is enough to start. We will come back with a plan and an itemised estimate.

Tell us about your products

A product link, a shot list or a rough idea is a good place to start. Tell us what you need and we’ll help plan your photography.

Before you book

Flat lay photography questions.

Is flat lay only for clothing?

No. Accessories, beauty products, stationery, food packaging and coordinated collections can also suit an overhead arrangement. The product should still be easy to recognise from above.

Can you style the arrangement?

Yes. Share the products, intended use and any references. We agree the arrangement and any props or specialist styling in the estimate.

Can you photograph each item and the full set?

Yes. List the individual views and combinations you need so each finished photograph is included in the plan and price.

Is flat lay the same as ghost mannequin?

No. Flat lay arranges the garment on a surface. Ghost mannequin photographs it on a shaped support, then removes the mannequin through editing. The better choice depends on what you need to show.

How is the price worked out?

We quote for the images and work agreed for your project. Your itemised estimate sets out the photography, editing and any additional production requirements. Packshots Pro is not VAT registered and does not charge VAT. There is no minimum order.

Can you work to my deadline?

Tell us the date when you enquire, along with when the products or source images will be available. We confirm the delivery date before booking and will tell you if the brief needs adjusting to fit the time available.
